24 Hour Home Care in Indianapolis
Some people are not safe alone at three in the morning. Our caregivers work rotating awake shifts, so there is never a gap in the day or in the night.
Around-the-clock care at home
The call usually comes after something happened. A fall in the hallway. A front door found standing open at dawn. A burner left on all night. Up until then the family had been stitching together check-ins and phone calls, and then one bad night made it clear that check-ins were never going to be enough.
Around-the-clock home care means a caregiver is present and awake every hour, including the ones nobody wants to cover. Shifts rotate, usually two or three caregivers across a twenty-four hour day, so the person on duty is genuinely alert rather than dozing on a couch. This is non-medical care: help with daily living, supervision and safety, not nursing. For many Marion County families it is what makes staying home possible instead of moving into a facility. Whether you need 24 hour home care for a short stretch or as a long-term arrangement, we start by learning which hours worry you most.
What our 24 hour home care includes
The same attention you have been giving, spread across shifts so nobody burns out.
Awake overnight coverage
A caregiver stays up through the night, ready for bathroom trips, confusion, pain or someone who gets out of bed at two.
Personal care and ADLs
Bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transfers and repositioning, handled with dignity at any hour of the day.
Mobility and fall risk support
Standby help in the bathroom, on the stairs and getting out of bed, which helps reduce the risk of a fall at night.
Wandering and exit awareness
For clients living with dementia, someone is there to redirect at the door and guide them back to bed without a struggle.
Meals, fluids and reminders
Three meals, snacks and fluids through the day, plus cues at medication times for medicine the client takes themselves.
Daily shift notes
Each caregiver logs sleep, meals, mood and anything unusual, so the next shift and the family are never left guessing.
When around-the-clock care makes sense
Full coverage is a big step, and these are the situations that usually call for it.
- Nighttime wandering, sundowning or repeated night waking
- A recent fall, or a near miss nobody wants to repeat
- Late-stage dementia, where being alone is no longer safe
- Coming home from a hospital or rehab stay very weak
- A spouse caregiver who can no longer manage the nights
- Hospice at home, where the family wants support present
Why families choose Cater2U for full coverage
Awake means awake
Our overnight caregivers are on duty, not asleep in a guest room. That is the whole difference you are paying for, and we hold the line on it.
A small, consistent team
We build a rotation and keep it stable. Your parent sees the same handful of faces instead of a new person each shift, which matters most with memory loss.
We will tell you if it is too much
Around-the-clock care is not right for everyone. If fewer hours would do the job, or another setting would serve better, we will say so before you commit.
Questions families ask about this
With 24-hour care, two or three caregivers rotate through the day in awake shifts, usually eight or twelve hours each, so somebody is alert all night. With live-in care, one caregiver stays in the home for a longer stretch, has a private place to sleep, and gets a normal night of rest plus break time during the day. Live-in costs less and works when nights are quiet. Choose 24-hour care when they are not.
Start with the nights. If she sleeps through most of them and only needs occasional help, live-in care is usually enough and easier on the budget. If she is up two or three times, wanders, or has fallen on the way to the bathroom, she needs an awake caregiver. We spend time with her before recommending either one.
No. We are a non-medical agency. Our caregivers assist with daily living, supervision, meals, bathing and mobility, and they provide medication reminders and cues. They do not administer medication, give injections, change dressings or perform any skilled nursing or therapy task. Those require a licensed clinician, and many families run home health alongside our care.
For rotating 24-hour care, no. The caregiver on duty is awake and does not sleep in the home. You do need somewhere for them to sit, access to a bathroom and a little space in the kitchen. Live-in care is different and does require a private bed and reasonable sleeping quarters, which is part of how families choose between the two.
It is different, not automatically better. At home your parent gets one-to-one attention, familiar surroundings and their own bed, which often supports steadier sleep and mood. A facility has clinical staff on site around the clock. The honest answer depends on how much medical care is involved. We are glad to talk it through even if the answer is that home is not the right call.
Sometimes within a day or two, sometimes longer, because full coverage takes several caregivers and we will not fill a shift with someone who is not a fit. If you are in a crisis, say that when you call 463-277-4092. We can often begin with partial coverage the same week and build up to the full rotation from there.
