Respite Care Services in Indianapolis

You have been doing this a long time, and you are tired in a way that sleep does not fix. Respite care gives you hours or days off while someone steady takes your place.

Rest is not something you have to earn

Nobody signs up for this. One day you are a daughter, and then slowly you are also the cook, the driver, the pill sorter, the one who is awake at three in the morning. You skip your own checkups. You cancel on friends until they stop asking. And when somebody tells you to take care of yourself, you want to throw something, because there is no one else to do the job.

That is the entire point of respite care. We send a caregiver to your parent’s home so you can leave. Not to replace you, not to grade you, and not because you are failing at anything. Because caregiving is real work and nobody does it well on empty. Families across Indianapolis, Greenwood and Beech Grove use us for four hours on a Tuesday, for a weekend, or for the two weeks they finally booked a trip.

Who respite care is for

If any of these describe your last few months, this is exactly what respite is built for.

Why families call us for relief

We meet your parent first
Before the first respite shift we learn the routine, the names, the favorite chair and what turns an afternoon hard. You should not have to train us from a hotel room.

Flexible blocks, not rigid packages
Some families book every Thursday. Some call twice a year. Both are normal, and we will say honestly if a different service would serve you better.

More than one option under one roof
Alongside in-home respite we run an Adult Day Center and a Residential Stay program, so if home is not the right setting for a stretch, there is somewhere else to look.

Questions families ask about this

A few hours. Some families book four hours every week so they can grocery shop, get to church or simply sleep. Others use full days. There is no long commitment required beyond making a schedule that works for the caregiver. Start small if that feels safer, then extend once you have seen how the first visit goes.

She might be, at first. That is honest, and it does not mean you made the wrong call. Most of the time the reaction fades inside the first hour, once she and the caregiver find a rhythm. We keep the routine you already built, because familiar routines settle people faster than reassurance does. We call you if something is genuinely wrong.

Yes. Overnight respite is one of the most requested schedules we run, especially for families caring for someone who wakes, wanders or calls out at night. You sleep in your own house while an awake caregiver handles the hours you have been handling alone. If the nights never let up, look at our 24-hour home care as well.

Our caregivers provide personal care, including bathing, toileting and transfers with support, as part of a respite shift. What we do not do is anything medical. No injections, no wound care, no skilled nursing or therapy. If he needs those, a home health clinician would handle that piece and we work alongside them.

No, though dementia caregivers use it most, because that job never clocks out. We also cover for families caring for someone after a stroke, someone with Parkinson’s, an adult with a disability, or a parent who is simply too frail to be alone now. If you are the one holding it together, respite applies to you.

Most families pay privately or draw on a long-term care insurance policy, and we can help you read that policy and understand what it actually covers. There are also community and county programs worth exploring. Call 463-277-4092 and we will talk through the options for your situation, with no pressure attached.
