Non-Medical Home Care

Senior Meal Preparation Services in Indianapolis

We shop, cook and sit down at the table so meals stop being a chore. Special diets are prepared to the plan your family or dietitian provides.

Weight loss usually starts with a skipped lunch

Cooking for one is discouraging. Add stiff hands, a walker between the chair and the stove, and a refrigerator full of things that need chopping, and the path of least resistance becomes toast. Families often notice the weight before they notice the kitchen. Clothes hang differently, energy drops, and a parent who says they are eating fine is technically telling the truth. They are eating. Just not much, and not well.

Our caregivers handle the whole loop: planning what to make, shopping at the store your parent already likes, cooking in their own kitchen, and sitting down at the table while they eat. That last part is not filler. People tend to eat more when someone eats with them. We serve Indianapolis, Greenwood and the surrounding communities in Marion and Johnson counties, and we cook what your family actually eats rather than a menu we brought with us. Good senior meal preparation starts with asking what the person actually likes to eat.

Who meal preparation helps most

Appetite problems and kitchen problems look the same from the outside, and both respond well to help.

Why our approach to senior nutrition works

We follow the plan, we do not write it
If a doctor or dietitian has set restrictions, we cook to them exactly and keep the written instructions in the home. We are not a medical provider and we never adjust anyone's diet on our own.

Food people recognize
A caregiver who makes your mother's green beans the way she has always made them gets further than a nutritionally perfect plate she pushes away.

Eating is social
Many families tell us appetite picks up once somebody sits down too. A shared meal is one of the simplest supports for eating well, and it is built into every visit.

Questions families ask about this

Yes. Meals are prepared to the plan your family or dietitian provides, and we keep a written copy in the home so every caregiver works from the same instructions. We are a non-medical agency, so we do not design diets, set portions or make nutrition recommendations of our own. Bring us the guidance and we will follow it carefully.

You do. The caregiver shops with your parent’s money or a card you provide, keeps every receipt, and gives you an itemized record. Many families set a simple weekly budget and a preferred store. If your parent enjoys the outing, the caregiver can take them along to the grocery in Indianapolis or Greenwood rather than going alone.

No, and we would not try. What we can do is remove the obstacles: serve smaller plates more often, keep favorites on hand, add calories where they are easy to hide, and keep her company while she eats. If the appetite loss is new or she keeps losing weight, that belongs in front of her doctor, and we will say so when we think it is time.

It depends on your schedule. A caregiver on a four-hour visit will usually cook one fresh meal and batch two or three more into labeled containers for the fridge or freezer, so the days we are not there are covered too. Families who want fresh cooking every day book shorter visits at mealtimes instead.

Feeding assistance is part of personal care and we provide it. A caregiver will sit beside him, keep the pace slow, and give only as much help as he needs so he stays involved in his own meal. If he has a swallowing diagnosis, we follow the texture and positioning instructions his speech therapist or doctor has written down.

Yes. Cleaning up after a meal, running the dishwasher, wiping counters and checking the refrigerator for spoiled food are all part of the visit. Broader housekeeping such as laundry, floors and bathrooms falls under our light housekeeping service, which most families combine with meal preparation in the same visit.
